Jaco's Park Grand Opening
The City of Oakland Park dedicated the opening of the Jaco Pastorius Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the mayor. Later there was a jazz concert . Jaco's 3 sons are in the last photo. Jaco was a childhood friend of mine that went on to be perhaps the greatest bass guitar player in the world. He died tragically 20 years ago in an altercation with a bar bouncer. In his last years he suffered manic-depression compounded with drug abuse. He became unable to productively perform and was homeless. I remember him as a genuinely unique individual with an incredible spark and positive personality.
